Conscience Meeting Held for Syrian Refugees
A Conscience Meeting focusing on Syrian refugees was held on July 13, 2024. The meeting discussed the challenges faced by refugees and possible solutions to these problems. Participants shared their experiences and opinions, and tried to raise awareness on this critical issue.
“Assad’s Tyranny Continues” and “Refugees Face Huge Challenges”
Speaking at the meeting, Osama Bey explained the Assad regime's oppression of Syrians. He emphasized that Assad is not only hostile to people, but also to their beliefs and lifestyles. He stated that the regime has killed a million people to date and committed genocide using chemical weapons. Osama Bey stated that Syrians prefer to die rather than return to a country under Assad's rule.
Academician Enas Hanım expressed the serious problems faced by Syrian refugees in Turkey. She stated that refugees have no security of life, have difficulty finding housing and live in fear of deportation. She also said that the Directorate of Migration Management does not renew the refugees' IDs and that there are serious problems in education.
“The Cost of the Economic Crisis May Be Put on Syrians” and Solution Proposals Discussed
Mr. Ömer stated that the economic crisis could be blamed on Syrians and that the government could deport Syrians to recover its falling votes. He also stated that social media influencers and journalists should be supported in order to raise public awareness.
At the meeting, solutions to the problems of Syrian refugees were also on the agenda. Ms. Enas suggested a new law against racism, mobilization of civil society organizations and accurate information for the public. Ünal Bey emphasized that existing legal regulations should be implemented effectively.
At the end of the meeting, the importance of awareness-raising efforts through social media was emphasized. Participants requested YouTube celebrities and journalists to make videos about the situation of refugees. In addition, the importance of conscience volunteers making and publishing short videos and carrying out visits was reminded.
The meeting ended with thanks and farewells. This meeting was an important step in understanding the difficulties experienced by Syrian refugees and how these difficulties can be overcome. It is of great importance that all segments of society, especially civil society organizations and individuals, show sensitivity on this issue.
