Exemplary Behavior of the Week: Refusing to Kill

İletişim

This week, Itamar Greenberg’s decision, chosen by our volunteers as “Exemplary Behavior of the Week,” stood out as a concrete demonstration of the importance we attach to human rights and moral responsibility. Young Israeli Itamar Greenberg bravely demonstrated his commitment to peace and human rights by refusing to join the Israel Defense Forces.

Greenberg announced his decision to the public in a tweet. In his post, he stated that joining the military was a political choice, but joining an army based on occupation, oppression and killing was a crime. Greenberg, who stated that he was ready to pay the price for this stance by listening to his conscience, stated that he was currently on his way to a military prison and would not be reachable for a while.

This decision is an expression of Itamar Greenberg's defense not only of his own conscience but also of universal human rights principles. As a defender of peace and justice, his courageous stance reminded us and the world once again how important the struggle for human rights is.

As the VICDAN FOUNDATION, we wholeheartedly applaud this exemplary behavior that supports peaceful resistance and the right to conscientious objection. Individuals like Itamar Greenberg inspire our efforts to make the world a better place by acting with their conscience. This courageous stance shows that the struggle for social change and justice always continues somewhere.

Greenberg’s courageous decision reminds us all how valuable it is to have the courage to listen to your conscience and do what is right. As the CONSCIENCE FOUNDATION, we will continue our mission to raise awareness of human rights and freedom of conscience with such inspiring stories.
