Mothers of Lieutenant Trainees Visited the Conscience Foundation: Support for the Quest for Justice

Today, as the Vicdan Foundation, we hosted the Mothers of Lieutenant Trainees at our center. These brave mothers are fighting for the freedom of their children who were unfairly tried after the July 15 coup attempt and have been in prison for 9 years. During their visit, they met with our Foundation Board Chairman Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu and expressed the injustices their children are experiencing.

The mothers made this visit to the capital as part of the meetings they planned to hold with political parties and human rights organizations. Their aim is to make their children’s innocence and the injustices they have suffered known to a wider audience and to gain support from all segments of society in their quest for justice. During the visit, they emphasized that their children were not involved in any crime, that they were only called as witnesses from the barracks where they were studying as trainees, but that they were tried as defendants. Stating that their children spent their youth in prison during this unjust process that has been going on for 9 years, the mothers asked that society and authorities not remain indifferent to this situation.

Our Foundation President Gergerlioğlu stated that they stand by the families in this difficult situation and that they will support their search for justice. He also emphasized the determination of our Foundation once again by saying, “We will continue to listen to what no one wants to hear, see what no one wants to see, and say what no one wants to say, and thus, we will raise consciences.”

The determined struggle of the Mothers of Lieutenant Trainees reminded us once again how powerful a guide conscience is. As the Conscience Foundation, we will always stand by the struggle for justice and human rights.
