The Dialectic of Justice and Conscience: How Fair is the 'World'?
As the Vicdan Foundation, we are organizing an in-depth conversation on the concepts of justice and conscience at a special event to be held at our foundation center on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 16:30. The guest of this event will be Muhsin Altun , a researcher and writer who has undertaken important studies on social justice, conscience and empathy.
Muhsin Altun is a writer known for his works such as "To Kill Piously: How a Million Red Muslims Were Murdered?" and "Reputation and Power." Altun has done deep research on how social justice can be achieved and the role of conscience in this process. In this event, we will discuss important topics such as "The factors that determine our attitude towards the victim/oppressed; the effect of empathy on the formation of the idea of conscience and justice; the role of value judgments and cultural norms in establishing empathy; why do we symbolize justice with scales; the source of the belief in a 'just world' or 'divine justice'; can justice emerge from oppression?"
