Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi

Despite being only 26 years old, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi has been recognized as an activist who has bravely fought for conscience, justice and human rights throughout her life. Born in Antalya on July 27, 1998, Eygi moved to the USA with her family while she was still a child. Eygi, who spent her education and youth in the USA, stood out not only with her academic achievements but also with her deep sense of justice. Eygi, who studied psychology at university and minored in Middle Eastern languages and cultures, did not remain indifferent to the injustices that society was subjected to, and became an active political activist.

Eygi's activist identity was strengthened by her participation in various social and political movements in the USA. In 2016, she took part in the struggle to protect the lands of the Sioux Indians in the US state of North Dakota and took an active role in the protests against Donald Trump's election as president. During this period, she worked for social change by taking part in socialist political groups. However, Eygi's heart and conscience were closest to the suffering of the oppressed people in Palestine.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was known for her sensitivity to the Palestinian cause and her work on this issue. Her participation in the university graduation ceremony with a keffiyeh around her neck symbolized her commitment to Palestine and the injustices there. After graduation, she decided to go to the West Bank to witness what was happening in Palestine more closely and to support the people there. However, this courageous decision cost her life; she was shot by Israeli soldiers during a protest held in the occupied West Bank on September 6, 2024.

Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi's importance in terms of conscience lies in the courage she showed in her search for justice and her unwavering belief in the universal values of humanity. Eygi became a source of hope and inspiration not only for the Palestinian people but also for people suffering injustice all over the world. Her struggle reminds us once again that individuals with a conscience should not remain silent and how important it is to stand against injustice. Eygi’s life shows that conscience is not just an inner feeling, but also a powerful moral compass that requires action.
